Food Trends from the Best Day Ever: Summer Fancy Food Show 2017
The Specialty Food Association's Fancy Food Show is one of my favorite days of the year. It is the absolute best reason to collapse exhausted from spending hours on your feet sampling high quality and new food products.
The FFS comes in NYC every summer and to San Francisco every winter. While it would be nice to escape the cold and attend the S.F. show, budget allows me to only stick to the more local show. The three day food expo fills the Javitz center with an overwhelming about of tables showcasing food and food related products. In recent years, all the buzz words come out to play: sustainability, healthy alternatives, energy.
I noticed a lot of fermented beverages (tons of Kombucha, of course), vegan and gluten free fare that is actually tasty, and a big uptick in products boasting tumeric.
Some highlights:
Not being the biggest lover of hummus, Toom's healthy onion dip makes a great alternative. Also in the onion snack game, Skinny Quinoa sticks in sweet onion tasted like Funyons (100 calories vs 300)
Coconut jerky, I could snack on this regularly. I also saw a lot of beef and turkey jerky.
I was excited to try Bee Free Honee, having seen them on Shark Tank. The Red Curry was awesome and got me thinking about all the flavored honey (or honey alternative) possibilities.
More:
Miyokos vegan cheese, gratable balsamic spheres from Terra Tuono, Tio Gazpacho in a bottle (available at Snap Kitchen), Pure Green Coffee (made from unroasted coffee beans that takes more like tea).
I left tired, full, happy, and inspired! Can't wait until next year and will be on the look out for my favorite new products.
